Make your downloading process easier and more efficient with the JDownloader
Chrome Extension
. With its high rating of 4.03 out of 5, it stands as one of the
top Chrome extensions
for
media
downloading. Based on a multitude of user reviews, this Chrome extension is recognized for its functionality and convenience. However, let's dive deeper into its features, the reasons behind its popularity, and the areas it could improve for better user experience.
Key Features and Usage of the JDownloader Chrome Extension
The JDownloader Chrome extension is a powerful
browser
tool
that enhances your download actions. It achieves this by connecting your browser to the JDownloader, a Java-based
download manager
. The extension provides two operation modes:
-
The first sends downloading jobs from the right-click context menu.
-
The second method interrupts the built-in download manager, redirecting your requests to the JDownloader.
The interruption mode isn't active by default. To activate it, simply click on the action button. This mode is helpful when a website doesn't provide the download link directly.
Native Integration and Installation
The JDownloader Chrome extension requires a native client for execution. Instructions for installing this NodeJS native client are displayed upon first use. This extension only calls the JDownloader, meaning you need to have the application on your operating system for the extension to work. The native client is used to run the downloader when the server is not present. However, even without the native client, the extension still operates efficiently when the JDownloader is running in the background.
User Reviews: Strengths and Improvements
Positive user feedback for the JDownloader Chrome extension emphasizes its utility as a
download manager
. Many users, like Gibby Nla, find it to be one of their most used extensions. However, a common point of concern is the issue of multiple tabs opening upon launching Chrome. Users have also expressed a need for more intuitive filtering capabilities for downloads and an improved user interface.
Conclusion
The JDownloader Chrome extension stands out as a powerful tool for simplifying and enhancing your downloading process. With a high rating and positive user feedback, it is undoubtedly an efficient
chrome extension
to consider. However, keep in mind that like any software, it has areas that can be improved for a more seamless user experience.

To all of the people complaining about how this is complicated...clearly you have not used JDownloader. The only reason to use this is for JDownloader. If you don't need the functionality of JDownloader, I highly recommend you use something else. If you don't know if you need the functionality of JDownloader, you probably don't. Here is how I use it: I can copy a link URL to a site that contains a list of links to other (paid) download sites with the file (mediafire, rapidupload, etc). I have JDownloader configured with credentials to my debrid service. This service gives me access to ~20 paid download sites (this is configured in JDownloader). When I paste a link, JDownloader will crawl that page, extract any download links on subpages, and only add the urls for the services I have access to. If you think this extension is complicated, you aren't ready for JDownloader. Try something like Downie.
Super. Great utility with open source code.
This is awesome downloader alternative of IDM, but performance is better then idm.
Works well, but it would be good if you can implement a mimetype wildcard support, suppose I don't want extension to interrupt any image files, I tried using image/* but didn't worked. Thanks in advance
Does not work at all.
Bricked my browser. Thank you.
One of my most used extensions. But there are issues where it opens multiple tabs when I launch Chrome for no reason. It would be nice if would pick resolution in context menu instead of having to go into preferences to change it.
I installed this yesterday, and today, just after I opened chrome it started bombarding "got empty response" notifications, and opened like 1000 new tabs causing the browser to freeze.
It's confusing to filter stuff on a page to only what you're trying to download. You also have to install a standalone app on your computer. It also randomly downloads whatever the heck it wants from a page you're looking at. I don't know how to make it download _only_ the stuff I tell it to. It's a very powerful tool but the UI is pretty bad--that plus randomly downloading anything it wants without being prompted is pretty rough.
I need this features: - Download current URL (Send current URL to JDownloader) - Remove "Open Download Test Page" in Context Menu
great addon
very helpful
nice one. the best thing I like in it is you can download a whole playlist with many videos in just copy and paste one link....awesome.

This is great for when downloading files from filehosts, automatically starts the download using JDownloader and overrides Chrome's default internal downloading... you can set which filetypes you want JD or Chrome to handle in the options menu
